What is early childhood?
Early childhood is a crucial period that spans from birth to age eight (0-8). This is a time of great growth and development as well as immense vulnerability. Children’s experiences at this stage —which begin within the family and extend to their community, care and early education— establish the basis for their welfare, development, learning and productivity for the rest of their lives. Their impact is lasting, both in the academic and social spheres, especially for children from economically disadvantaged families.
