The Institute for Youth Development (Instituto del Desarrollo de la Juventud, IDJ) is a non-profit institution that seeks to ensure the optimal development of children and young people between 0-21 years of age in all its dimensions, with the goal that they become men and women who reach their full potential and collectively create a society of economic prosperity and social harmony.

To transform the systems that affects our children and young people through aligning and mobilizing sectors, to get them to adopt a Youth Development Model for Puerto Rico.
To encourage positive systematic changes in the developmental experiences of children and young people of Puerto Rico, the Institute for Youth Development (Instituto del Desarrollo de la Juventud, IDJ) will fulfill four fundamental objectives:
- Mobilize, unify and align everyone who impacts the development of children and youth in Puerto Rican society.
- Research, compile and disclose data, efforts and opportunities about the current state of children and young people in Puerto Rico.
- Train individuals and organizations working with children and young people with strategies for youth development.
- Generate public policy that guarantees the rights of children and young people and encourages more favorable environments and conditions for their development; monitor current policies and launch future policies that improve the development of children and youth in Puerto Rico.
It is the action framework that guides us to generate a systematic social change in favor of children and youth in Puerto Rico.
